Mannotone kicked off our first showcase.  One of my favorite emcees, Mannotone incorparates the Aesop-introverted-quips with a silver tongued touch all his own.  Captured a couple minutes of the third song in his set.  I apologize for the sound quality:

Coyote Girl followed with their whimsical terries.  A nice visceral act to sandwich between two “heady” hip hop acts.  Sequioia was left to handle 80 percent of the vocal duties because their other vocalist is on sabbatical in Mexico.  She feigned nervousness before the show, but honestly, she had nothing to worry about.  They sounded as crisp as ever, and her voice is perfectly coupled with the boys’ (Randy and Jon) interweiving string playing.  I grabbed a little video – the sound is better but its dark as hell.  See if you can catch Mr. Jon Lady playing wine glasses:

Much to our delight, and a common phenonemon with a lot of Oakland HipHop shows, Pessimist grabbed the mic for a stellar surprise 2 song set.  He played his anthem “Kick it for Life” which is now as synonymous with Oakland as nautical themed bands.  He jump started Savage’s set and dropped us from the clouds where Coyote Girl left us.  I caught a video of bit of “Kick it for life” though the sound quality is terrible.  Damn this old digital camera:

Young Savage fervently rubbed sonic goopydagoop into our head holes.  Mannotone jumped back on to help and everything got silly-cool, real fast.  The ethereal beats riddled with acerbic raps and synthy melodies will jumble anyones brains into fits of sheer excitement and numbing confusion.  Savage brings a cosmic cool that only an extraterrestial can handle with such nonchalance.  The motherfucker is just fun to watch, man.  So check out this video, once again, sorry for the audio, but the video is entertaining on its own anyway:

All in all, a terrible success.  It was just so awfully fun.  What a great catastrophe.  Come to the next one June 8th and catch more of a RnR oriented lineup with B. Hamilton, Ted the Block, and Mancub.  Mancub will be our guest on the radio this Saturday.  Very stoked on this show next Tuesday at the Stork, and the sting is only 3 bucks.
